Maybe what youre looking for,if not go thru the Microsoft/TechNet Scripts for more.

The trick for that was/is,open regedit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\desktop\ open AutoEndtasks L.click on autoendtasks/modify/set from 0 to 1 exit regedit, restart pc
Sorry, I don't know anything about using scripts so I wouldn't know where to start with that. Like I say, it's a well known app that is causing the problem, so even if I did know about scripts I couldn't change it's code anyway. I only know it's poorly coded because the app's devs and its own community know the bug exists but refuse to fix it, claiming "it's meant to be that way", hence why I just want to force it to close instead. (Sorry if my original post wasn't clear enough)
Surely there's a way to tell Windows to ignore specific apps at shutdown? If not I guess I'll just have to endure the "preventing shutdown" screen every time I shut down. Like I say, Ido not want to use the AutoEndTasks key as this would affect all apps, not just the offending one (I do sometimes forget to save my work in other apps).

Hi LeahG,
If you want to avoid using the AutoEndTasks reg key, you could also:
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Control. Click on the "Control" Folder. Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" Right click on it and select Modify. The default value is 20000. Setting it to a lower 4 digit value, (say 5000) will make your PC shutdown faster, but you could end up losing data, so use this tweak judiciously. Remember, Windows does not in any case, recognize a 3-digit numeral here.
This warning screen appears because your system asks you to save the change you made in your file and you haven't closed the opened app. Windows doesn't close all open apps automatically, by default.
What you can do is:
Click on Shutdown anyway
Click on Cancel and then close the specified apps manually
Make use of the Task Manager to end processes.

However, Windows will always try to auto end tasks when you are trying to shutdown. Those applications that are able to auto end will be terminated anyway.
To disable automatic termination of applications during shutdown in Windows, follow the guide linked below.

Lee
